Amy is a life long maker . She grew up in England. Making things was always a part of life, cakes, potions, mudpies, doll clothes , painting, drawing , printing and sewing.

Her work has always involved these three things, Mark Making , Colour and Process and all are integral parts to the way she works in life and when making art.

Her Mother is a Quilter so there was always access to fabrics and a sewing machine in the house and her love of textiles started young. The patterns and ideas from the history of quilting are both inspiration and a resource from which to work. The idea of a loved and worn object is something she tries to assimilate into her pieces.

After graduating from City and Guilds of London with a fine art painting degree she went on to start a second degree at Ontario college of Art and Design in Material Arts, Textiles.

It was in this time she met her husband and permanently moved to Toronto. After a decade of raising babies, making things on the side and teaching art to pre schoolers what she realized is that the making of many things in different mediums is what works best for her. Painting, Printmaking and Fabrics all fill different needs in her creative process and feed into to each other.

This is how Cloth Paper Print came to be.

I wanted to validate the traditional activities of women, to connect myself to the unknown women artists who had made quilts, who had done the invisible ‘women’s work’ of civilization.I wanted to acknowledge them and honour them.”
